Tony Montanaro

Tony Montanaro is a Partner at MTA Advisory Partners where he works closely with business owners and their advisors to navigate complex financial decisions with confidence. He co-leads client engagements, contributes to firm strategy, and plays an active role in growing the firm’s presence within the business community. Tony’s background in valuation, forensic analysis, and M&A allows him to bring both technical insight and practical perspective to every engagement.
Before joining Matthew Thomas Advisors, Tony spent more than a decade as a practicing Certified Public Accountant at Louis Plung & Company, where he became a Partner and a trusted advisor to closely held businesses. His experience includes business valuations for transactions, estate and gift taxes, 409A stock valuations, shareholder matters, and estate planning. As a Certified Fraud Examiner, Tony has also led investigations involving employee theft, payroll and vendor fraud, insurance claims, and financial reporting issues. He began his career in 2003 in audit roles at local accounting firms and in the accounting department at the University of Pittsburgh.
Tony is known for being highly responsive and easy to work with. He prides himself on clear communication and a genuine desire to understand how each client’s business operates. His curiosity and commitment to learning have been central to his career—and to the way he serves clients.
A lifelong Pittsburgher, Tony enjoys living and working in his hometown. Outside of work, he spends time fly fishing, participating in shooting sports, and enjoying life with his wife, Samantha, their son Luca, and their dog, Maverick.
